Our New Digs
We moved out to the step down unit yesterday afternoon and were welcomed with open arms by nurses who have taken care of Mallory before. I took advantage of holding Mallory every second I could. I've held her so much Grandma hasn't even gotten a chance to yet. :) We will have to work on that today.
Mallory is still being fed by an NG Tube, but was interested in drinking water last night and took 2 small bites of an animal cracker. She was having a bit of a tough night because she is offically in narcotic withdrawl. :( Her Methadone does help some but we had to give her an extra dose to take the edge off last night so she could sleep, and Mommy too! she woke up this morning in a good mood. she still isn't talking much. Just saying "no" and "Mama". Her throat is still very sore and it will just take time to get her old voice back.
Mal went for an Echo, EKG and chest x-ray this morning. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to see the ECHO of her new normal heart. I am just amazed!
She had fun at physical therapy this morning. Rebecca came to play in the room and feels in a couple of days Mallory will be ready to come to the PT Gym for her sessions. Tomorrow she will try a wagon ride during PT to help her strengthen her neck muscle and be able to hold her head straight. Since Mallory was paralyzed and lying for two weeks she almost has the appearance of a small baby who is trying to hold their head up and not flop around. This morning she is much more sturdy and even held her own sippy cup for a few seconds! Way to Go Mal! Tomorrow we will quit the continuous feedings through the NG Tube and try working on solids. She will get a certian amount of nourishmnent through the tube every couple of hours until she is eating everything on her own. She will be looked at by one of the neurologists today to get a feel of what kind of Physical and Occupational Therapy she will have to do once we get home.
Every baby step she is taking is getting us one step closer to the Cornhusker state! I know we will have a lot of work to do when we do get home, but at least we will be with our family and friends. I'll continue to let you all know what new baby or big girl steps Mallory continues to take. :)

What a relief it must be to have the news of her tests. I can't imagine not being able to hold your kids when they really need it.
I't sounds like she's not just taking baby steps anymore. Hope your back sooner than you expect.

So glad to hear that she is back in your arms. What a comfort for the both of you! I'm sure the last two weeks have felt like years to you, but she has come SO far in that short amount of time. She is absolutely amazing.
We will continue with prayers for a speedy recovery. All of Nebraska is eagerly awaiting the return of our superstar! Everyone is anxious to have you back home with your family.
Sending lots of prayers and hugs from the sandhills.

I am so glad that things are going great. It was nice to see you guys on Monday, she looked terrific. We will be back in SL on May 21st so maybe we will have to visit at the apartment. Keep up the good work and baby steps. We continue to pray for all of you.
We just know Mallory will be making leaps and bounds now that she is back in mommy's arms, it's amazing what that security can do for a little one!! We will be here cheering for Mal every time she masters another one of those milestones. Bless you all for the strength you have shown and may God continue to give you what you need each day to make it back home soon!
All our love-

Wendy, congratulations on being named "Queen for a Day" in the Journal Democrat. What an honor! Your family, friends, and prayer partners already know you are a Queen - everyday. You have shown such faith and unending strength throughout all of this. We look forward to the day when you and your little princess are back in Nebraska. We continue to pray that day will be soon.

Wendy and Mallory, Just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you. Your sister was in today and gave us an update. We had been wondering how things were going. We were so excited when she gave us your blog site. We can't wait to see Miss Mallory back at the office. Take care and have a wonderful Mother's Day! -Erin and Kelly at Dr Koch's office
I'm so happy to hear all this good news! I knew Mal would fight her way through this. She is her mama's kid after all!
Big Hugs to both of you.
Love,G
We're on our way to the K,1,2 music program and wanted to check before we left! Even more to sing about! YEA!!! Logan and Madison did a great job at the "rehearsal" this afternoon. They were all smiles and wow, did they sing!
What a victory we are seeing in your strength and in Mallory's ability to fight the fight!
Of course our TRUE VICTORY is in Christ Jesus and he is the greatest example of endurance.
Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,...and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us...”
Keep running the race--the finish line is closing in!
Prayers to you always.

Go Mally! for holding your own sippy cup. Hope everything goes okay tomarrow. Keep going strong and don't give up hope.
Every little step is a step closer to coming home. I don't blame mom for not wanting to put you down Mallory. It probably felt so good for both of you. Thanks for the updates. Do you know your mom is "Queen for a Day"? We all know she is a Queen! She goes a step beyond as a person and is a wonderful mother. Take it easy on her when you get back to running around.
Love, Renee
MOST exciting, hope you have another great day!
Thinking of you this Mother's Day!

Hello! I hope you are both home soon. Not sure what I will do with all the time I will have when I do not have to check Mallory's Blog a million times a day. I am on my way to get something for the party tonight. I will get something Brynn likes just in case Madison gives it away as a prize(hairband)! hahaha Hope to see you both soon!
