One Foot In Front of The Other
Miss. Mallory is still taking those baby steps. She had a very good night last night. She held her own. She was holding rock steady today when she decided she needed to spike a fever. They once again put the cooling blanket on her and the temp slowly came down. They took cultures and started her on antibiotics just in case. The positive out of this whole fever episode is her blood pressure did not waver! Thats another step in the right direction. She is off the paralitic drug and the sedative. Now we just need to let those drugs work their way out of her system so she can wake up all the way and we can get the vent tube out. They did go down on the rate of the vent because she is breathing over it. She started to twitch today and even attempted to open her eyes a few times. She responds to our voices too!
We had a great visit today from Paula Brammier and Kris Goering. They flew in for the day. Funny isn't it that it's less expensive to fly to St. Louis than drive! Mallory also responded to their voices. It was GREAT to see some faces from home, and what cute faces they are. We went and had lunch at an outside cafe and had to explain to the waiter how to make a red beer. :) I haven't laughed and cried like that in awhile. Kris was also kind enough to "spiff" me up a little when she was here so I feel like myself again.
Our goal for this evening is to continue to keep the temp down, continue to turn down the rate on the vent, and pee all the sedative and paralitic drugs out! The Docs decided to do a profusion (sp?) test tomorrow. This will tell us how well her lungs are working. No worries. Since her heart was so big and her left lung was compressed they just want to see how well it's working.
I'm off for my stay at the hospital this evening. It's Scott's turn to sleep at the apartment. I'll update again tomorrow!!

Miss Mallory - This is your upstairs neighbor at the apartments, Avery. I hope you are feeling better tomorrow and keep making those steps towards recovery. Someday soon I hope to be playing with you when we stop by St. Louis for our checkups. Maybe we can go to the zoo and see some elephants. Love you and I'll see you tomorrow when I come over to the hospital.
We have been thinking of you guys and were so happy to hear the news! Our girls have been talking about Mallory and want to wish her well! You are in our prayers! --Mike and Kelly Stoppkotte and girls ;)
Hi Mallory and Family! We have never met, but your grandma Jan knows our grandma Jane. We wanted to let you know that you are in our prayers as well. Being in the hospital is NO FUN, even if it is for something so important. We know, we just have brain surgery rather than heart! Keep up those baby steps... You must be one of the strongest little girls around! We'll keep checking on you and you will remain in our prayers everyday!

Wendy and Scott,
So good to hear she is being a trooper - as always!! Baby steps are the best way to go. They will each bring you closer to the finish line!
Thinking of you,

I guess the next time I leave Nebraska, I will have to take tomato juice with me! But in a can, less than 3ounces and able to fit in a zip lock bag :)
Scott and Wendy -- you continue to amaze us with your energy and up beat spirit! You both are such neat parents and are so tuned in with the doctors and nurses. You make a great team! You have taught us all so much. It was nice to get to meet some of the extraordinary doctors and nurses and other people that work at SLCH. They all are so genuine and caring...it's all so much more than just a job to them and that is obvious and that helps the parents more than they will ever know! I wish we could have met Rev. Hal...sounds like he is one of a kind!
Happy Tuesday!
Cheers :)
Paula
P.S. I love the new emblem on the back of your mini-van! Donor families truly change other people's lives.
Scott,Wendy,Madison,Logan&"Snow White"-You are all awesome inspirations for us Nebraskan bound. So today I will inspire to put one foot in front of the other just like you all are doing... Isn't that what life should be about?? We're following and tomorrow we will all be one step ahead in Life, along with the Muellers!!! Praise God that you are inspirations in my life!!!
Some day very soon and years from now you are going to have stories to tell "Southeast Nebraska's own Snow White". It is amazing to see where this blog spot is going. I really believe the small steps are the important ones and the ones that will stick. Keep it up, and we will keep up the prayers.
