DISCHARGED!

As I am writing this Mallory is sitting in her highchair at the Ronald McDonald House apartment eating her second afternoon snack. Actually, one cracker and bite of cheese is going in her mouth and the next it is going onto the floor. Yes, at 2:30 this afternoon we were offically discharged from the hospital! I am exhausted!! I didn't get much sleep last night wondering if today was going to be the day. Everyone hinted all weekend that Monday could be discharge since Mallory isn't hooked up to anything, we know how to give her her meds, they pulled her NG tube on Sunday morning and she is eating so well.

There was some talk about not going back to the RMH until tuesday, but me being the Mom that I am, reminded the coordinators that being in the hospital any longer than necessary leads to a greater chance of secondary infections. :) They just laughed and said, "Yes, we know Wendy".

Mallory is currently taking 9 different medications. You should see our counter! She has a clinic visit on Thursday. At this visit she will have blood drawn to check med levels, have an ECHO, EKG and chest x-ray. Dr. Canter says he may release her to come back to Nebraska on Monday! I am still in shock. I can't wait for our family to be together again. You all won't believe how good she looks! Don't worry, I'll let you all know for sure when we are coming home!

Shock is right! What exciting news! I think I'll go and have an afternoon snack myself in honor of Mallory's "discharge" day! Wendy, I hope you are able to get some rest in the days ahead :) Looking forward to your homecoming, but don't worry, we'll keep our distance (for a little while at least)!

Cheers!

All I can do is say "WONDERFUL!!!",
you all have made Syracuse proud. Wendy what you have done is amazing. Scott having to be torn between two places, I can't even imagine how difficult that was, I am sure we would all vote him "King for a Day". And the rest of your extended family are always there for you. We look forward to the day this blog comes from only miles up the road. God Bless you all and the family that gave Mallory such a wonderful gift.

I'm so happy to read the wonderful news. Way to go Mallory. I had a great visit with your Mom this weekend and she had such a sound of joy and relief in her voice. I offered to make her something to drink, and her comment was she better not or she would probably fall asleep. You take care and can't wait to see you two (that little oh so pink girl as Grandma described her).

What a great way to end the night--with such TERRIFIC news. Pierce reminded me at all of the graduation parties we visited that it was VERY IMPORTANT to save all of the pop tabs from the cans for the Ronald McDonald House for Mallory. I agree! In college, the RMH was our main sorority philanthropy. We volunteered in Omaha often. I always knew it was an especially important place--but now, after hearing of your experiences, it really hits home. Thanks again for the great news.

P.S. Caitlyn had a great time at the birthday party. Now she is counting down the days until she can have Madison to her party :)

Speechless. That's what I am, and for the record, there's only been a very few times in my life that I can say that.

1.) as a newborn

2.) when I'm sleeping

3.) reading about Mallory!

Have a GREAT DAY at RMH having snacks, playing and resting.
Great job Mal!

We have been reading about Mallory since you went to St. Louis - it brings back so many memories of our family three year ago! I am originally from Nebr City, have an uncle (Charlie Pickering) in Syracuse and one of my co-workers sister is Angie Roberts that has past the information on to us - we take time each day to read what is happening and pray that things go well!! Glad to have you back in Nebraska and best of luck to Mallory and your family!

What wonderful news! The Dr was right-the best medicine for Mallory (and I'm sure Mom too) was to have Dad and her brother and sister with her this past weekend. Wendy-can't you just picture everyone here in Nebraska standing up and cheering for your family as we read your blog today that you and Mallory may be coming home so soon?! I picture Memorial Stadium filled with Mallory blog addicts standing and cheering and doing the wave and praising God for the miracle He has given us in Mallory. We will contiue to pray that Mallory's tests are all fine on Thursday and you can make that long awaited trip back to Nebraska to become a family again. Those baby steps will soon be turning into a joyful skip (with a cartwheel thrown in for good measure!) so hang in there!

Have a safe journey home and it will be great to see you. If you need anything just give us a call. You remain in our hearts and prayers. Rita & Tom Compton
